ISO9000 awarded to Maltacom

Maltacom has been awarded ISO9000 certification for the high quality and standards reached by the company's payphone division.

The certificate was presented to Maltacom chairman Maurice Zarb Adami by British High Commissioner Howard John Pearce on Monday.

Mr Pearce said the world was talking about globalisation, liberalisation and competitiveness and if Malta were to survive in such a changing world, meeting high standards was absolutely essential.

He said that no area of activity was proving to be more important than that of the telecommunications industry.

"Liberalisation is essential and one has to keep up with evolving technology to maintain its competitiveness," the High Commissioner said.

"High standards are the key and this will be an essential factor for Malta to attract foreign investment," he added.

Mr Pearce said he was certain that the certificate was the first of many others that Maltacom would be receiving and was an example of Malta's ability to meet the highest standards.

"Achieving ISO certification is not easy and is enormously demanding on the company applying for certification. Thus this award reflects the hard work of not only the management team but the workers themselves," Mr Pearce said.
