Malta could be a financial hub for southern Europe - Rothschild
by a staff reporter
Malta can become a financial hub for the south of Europe, an area of the world which has not yet developed in terms of financial services, according to Robin Fuller, managing director of Rothschild Asset Management. In 1995 a strategic alliance between Bank of Valletta and Rothschild Asset Management was formed, creating the first company in Malta to manage funds, Valletta Fund Management. Mr Fuller was interviewed by The Malta Business Weekly.
Mr Fuller, who is also a director of Valletta Fund Management, said that over the next few years there will be a lot of emphasis on the international dimension and the internationalisation of Malta as a financial centre.
"We are going to concentrate on getting third party fund administration from abroad and doing it locally. We have already started doing this with one SICAV for a Turkish company. At present, we are exploring the possibility of managing other foreign funds," he told The Malta Business Weekly.
