Malta Business Convention launched
by Anna Maria Bartolo
People who work in business will be able to meet and hold discussions at the Malta Business Convention next week.
The convention is being organised jointly by the Economics Services Ministry and the Trade Fair Corporation. It will be held at the Trade Fair Grounds in Naxxar between 19 and 23 January.
Edwin Vassallo, parliamentary secretary in the ministry for economic services, said yesterday that the convention aimed to gather people involved in business and anyone who offered services to businesses under one roof.
Mr Vassallo was speaking during the launch of the convention at the Trade Fair Grounds in Naxxar.
"The Malta Business Convention offers a new and different form of consultation on a concrete level," Mr Vassallo said, adding that consultation was essential in providing information about future business opportunities.
The MBC will be a usual type of fair featuring stands which provide information and business products, he said. The public will be able to meet representatives of banks, corporations, departments and other entities which offer services to businesses, he continued.
The activity does not cater only for those who have an established firm, he said, adding that those work in local markets and shops as well as students planning to embark on a business career should find the event interesting.
There will also be discussions led by ministers and several chairmen of entities.
"Within a span of a few days, more than 40 subjects will be discussed simultaneously," the parliamentary secretary said.
Paul Abela, president of the Trade Fair Corporation, said the first edition of this fair had been the Finance and Business Exhibition and Conference.
"We realised that the discussions during the conference had generated a lot of interest. Therefore, this time, we are emphasising very much on discussions," Mr Abela said.
Three seminars are being held during the convention. They are being organised by the Economic Services Ministry and the main MBC sponsors, Bank of Valletta and HSBC Malta plc.
On 19 January, Valletta Investment Bank Ltd, a subsidiary of the Bank of Valletta Group, will host the seminar entitled 'Mergers and Acquisitions within the Economic Restructuring Process'.
HSBC Bank Malta plc has planned a full day seminar for 21 January called 'Small and Medium Sized Enterprises - planning for successful growth)'.
Lejn Prodott ta' Kwalita Ahjar (Towards a Better Quality Product) is the theme of the seminar on 22 January organised by the Economic Services Ministry in collaboration with the Malta Standardisation Authority.
More information and a programme of the MBC, can be obtained from the Economics Services Ministry, tel:246031.
In order to attend the HSBC seminar, one must complete a form available at any HSBC branch and send it to the bank headquarters in Blata l-Bajda by not later than Friday.
