Tony Debono not running for Maltacom's CEO post
by David Kelleher
Management consultant Tony Debono will not be one of the front-runners for the post of chief executive officer at Maltacom. Mr Debono told The Malta Business Weekly that he will not be applying for the post, even though his name has been mentioned as one of the favourites to take over Tony Meilaq's position.
"I will not be applying for the post of chief executive officer at Maltacom. I have no intention of becoming CEO, and besides I have other interests that take priority right now," Mr Debono told The Malta Business Weekly.
At present Mr Debono is consultant to Mr Maurice Zarb Adami, chairman of Maltacom plc. He is his adviser on international affairs. Mr Debono is also a high official within Tumas Group and one of the key consultants on the Portomaso Project in St Julian's.
Rumours that Mr Debono was being considered for the post at Maltacom surfaced after he was appointed Mr Zarb Adami's consultant following the departure of Tony Meilaq.
At the time, assistant finance manager Stephen Muscat was also considered one of the front runners for the post.
A call for applications, issued last month, closes tomorrow
