EU chapters approved

The eight chapters of the European Union's acquis communautaire that are to be negotiated between Malta and the European Commission were approved yesterday by the ambassadors of the EU member States in Brussels. EU membership talks are to start on 28 March.

The chapters are Education, Training and Youth, Science and Research, Small and Medium size Enterprises, External Relations, Common Foreign and Security Policy, Industrial Policy, Telecommunications and Culture and Audio-Visual.

Malta, Slovakia, Latvia and Lithuania are all opening negotiations on eight chapters while Rumania and Bulgaria will be negotiating less.
