
Wooden tablemats and bilingual puzzles from Wider Horizons
Wider Horizons is a Young Enterprise Company that produces wooden tablemats and bilingual puzzles. The company, formed last October, is made up of sixth form students from St Aloysius' College. The students take care of the administrative work done in the company as well as the production of both products.
Wider Horizons is a company owned by shareholders. All members of the company own at least one share and are entitled to one vote irrespective of the amount of shares they hold.
A management team of functional directors was elected at the beginning of the year. The team consists of a managing director, sales director, marketing director, production director, personnel director, quality director, finance director and company secretary. Elections for these posts were held in January.
Each director has specific duties that must be performed throughout the Young Enterprise Year. The personnel director, for example, monitors safety, organises training and manages disciplinary proceedings.
The finance director plans and controls the budget, manages all cash and credit controls, records all financial transactions and prepares profit and loss statements, balance sheets and a liquidation report at the end of the financial year.
Wider Horizons produces wooden tablemats that are available in a wide variety of shapes and colours, and wooden bilingual puzzles that are sold in sets of 10. The tablemats cost between Lm4 and Lm4.50. A set of puzzles costs Lm4.
