UHM pleased with budget agreement
by Sandro Mangion
The agreement reached between the government and the Union Haddiema Maghqudin on Tuesday guarantees that it is the strongest who carry the greatest share of the budget measures introduced last November, UHM
secretary general Gejtu Vella said yesterday.
"We are satisfied with the agreement," he said. "It tackles the problems from a long-term perspective."
Mr Vella was addressing the new Federation of Industry council, lead by President Joe Zammit Tabona, who paid a visit to the union's administration at its headquarters in Floriana.
One of the points in the agreement stipulates that the Tax Compliance Unit will start functioning in June instead of September. Mr Vella said the union looks forward to the collaboration of the FOI to ensure that the unit operates effectively. He also voiced the UHM's conviction of the FOI's cooperation within the Malta Council for Economic Development to ensure, in a diligent and responsible way, a bright future for the workers.
Both the UHM and the FOI delegations agreed that meetings between the two sides should be more frequent.
The FOI President presented the union with a copy of the federation's position paper on industrial policy. The policy was launched yesterday.
