Indian software interest in EU applicant States
Indian technology and software companies are showing great interest in entering European markets and have set their sights on European Union applicant countries, including Malta.
Speaking to The Malta Business Weekly, an Indian business consultant said that the Indian business community was interested in developing stronger ties with the EU, especially with applicant countries.
"A number of talks have already been held in Cyprus and we would also be interested in developing a possible relationship with Malta in the light of its plans to join the European Union," the business consultant said.
"We believe that applicant countries can offer a lot to Indian technology companies wanting to do business in Europe. Establishing these relationships is our main priority," he added.
The President of the European Union Commission, Romano Prodi, is expected to have high level meetings with top Indian politicians later on this month in Lisbon, Portugal, during the EU summit. He will be meeting India's Prime Minister, finance minister and technology minister.
India has one of the fastest growing technology industries in the world, providing excellent software development facilities at a relatively low cost. Indian expertise is also being highly sought after by top technology companies in the US and Europe.
