by Anthony Manduca
In May 2000, Mizzi, Scerri, Said & Co. was accepted as a full member of Ernst & Young International. As a result of this appointment, Mizzi, Scerri, Said & Co. will change its name to Ernst & Young with effect from 1 July. Ernst & Young will join the league of the Big Five international accountancy firms represented in Malta. Ernst & Young is the brand name used by Ernst & Young International across the globe. It is one of the Big Five firms of accountants in the world and has 700 offices employing 70,000 people serving major companies and entrepreneurial businesses around the world.
In November 1996, Mizzi, Scerri, Said & Co. was appointed a technical assistance firm to Reconta Ernst & Young, Italy, a member firm of Ernst & Young International. That appointment set Mizzi, Scerri, Said & Co. on a route which led to full membership this year.
The preparatory period under the auspices of Reconta Ernst & Young, Italy, has involved the local firm, its partners and staff in activities which have raised the efficiency and quality of the firm's services to international standards.
The first managing partner is Mario P. Galea whose experience with Ernst & Young goes back 15 years. The other partners of the firm are Michael Scerri, Martin H. Said, Richard W. Giorgio, Andrew Galea and Ronald Attard.
Mr Galea said that this development added to the challenges and opportunities that the Maltese economy is offering young accountants and students.
