Maltese financial services practitioners in Guernsey

by Anthony Manduca

A high level delegation of Maltese financial practitioners led by the chairman of the Malta Financial Services Centre (MFSC), Prof. Joseph Bannister, is at present in Guernsey promoting Maltese companies and Malta as an international financial services centre. The delegation includes bankers, lawyers, accountants, fund managers and professionals involved in financial services. Malta is also being promoted as a centre for back office management. The visit has been organised by Valletta Fund Management, a strategic alliance between the Bank of Valletta Group and Rothschild Asset Management, in collaboration with the MFSC.

Guernsey is considered to be one of the most established and influential financial services centres in the world. One financial practitioner told The Malta Business Weekly: "Guernsey is absolutely saturated with work, they simply can't take any more. We are hoping to take advantage of this and promote Malta's good name in the financial services sector."

Commenting on this visit, Bank of Valletta Group chairman, Joseph F. X. Zahra, who is also chairman of Valletta Fund Management, stated: "Our involvement in the organisation of this visit stems from our commitment to promote the growth of the financial services industry in Malta. Malta's strategic geographic position in the centre of the Mediterranean basin, combined with our strong

technical set-up and financial know-how, provides an ideal platform for the growth of this sector particularly in the provision of back office services."

Valletta Fund Management general manager Charles Borg said: "As a result of our experience, aptitude and reliability in managing five investment companies consisting of 18 sub-funds, Valletta Fund Management is an ideal partner for those operators wishing to establish or set up investment fund initiatives.

"Being a one-stop-shop financial services provider, Valletta Fund Management is today in a position to guide and provide fund operators with all the necessary back office services right from the set-up stage of investment instruments to the approval process and actual launch."
