by David Kelleher

maltaNET have just completed commissioning of a major system upgrade that will see capacity increase to cater for the expansion in customer base.

The company said that its international bandwidth has been more than doubled, from 4mbps to 10mbps

"maltaNET has always been renowned for the fastest service in Malta, and we intend to continue to provide this quality service to our subscribers," Gordon Dimech, manager commercial services, said.

"We have also increased our Network Operations Centre capacity in order to make sure that anyone who tries to access our servers at any time of the day is able to get through without any problems. The rate at which we are growing is an indication of the rate of growth of Internet in Malta," he added.

Simon Vella, senior networks and systems engineer said that "in this field, technological innovation is the order of the day, and we need to be constantly upgrading our systems.

We have recently commissioned new high speed systems to cater for the emerging ADSL technologies and are in the process of upgrading our internal routing equipment and high speed networks.

"We are also upgrading our provisioning and operations systems to make sure that we are in a position to cater for the more elaborate quality of service requirements of our high end customers."

MaltaNET also announced that it has extended its customer care hours and introduced secure online credit card payments for subscriptions and renewals.

"In an environment where technology and bandwidth become ubiquitous, the differentiating factor becomes the quality of customer care we are able to offer to our customers. Today we are a team of seven persons offering front line customer care 12 hours a day, backed up by a team of more specialised technicians and engineers.

"We are continuously working hard to improve our customer care approach and are building our main business drive based on this philosophy," Emeline Agius, who is responsible for the customer care operation, said.
