TQM training for healthcare services

Colette Isaac, director of nursing, with CARE UK plc, was recently in Malta to conduct an intensive TQM training course for the top management of Healthcare Services Ltd, Malta's largest and leading specialist company in elderly care.

Ing. Alexander Tranter, CEO of Healthcare Services told The Malta Business Weekly: "This top management training has served our company extremely well as it has put into perspective a number of important issues that our company will continue to focus upon and strengthen. I am confident that all our managers have now gained a good grasp of the concept behind Total Quality Management, in the light of the individualised care our company offers all our residents."

During the TQM course, Ms Isaac highlighted the importance of the total quality awareness within the organisation and explained all the systems that need to be in place to monitor quality. She also placed a lot of emphasis on other aspects effecting TQM such as communication, motivation, team building and problem solving. The Best Practice Guidelines of the Kings Fund Standards, were used as the main reference point for all activities surrounding TQM within a caring environment.

The training course was attended by all the home managers and their deputies, that are responsible for the day to day management of the four homes operated by Healthcare Services, Casa Arkati in Mosta, Villa Messina in Rabat, and the Zejtun and Cospicua government homes.

Ing. Tranter also stated that "this training course will definitely help us to attain increased resident satisfaction and a more motivated and dedicated workforce".
