First e-security conference to be held in October

by a staff reporter

e-Security will be the topic of a conference being organised by Shireburn Co. Ltd in October.

The one-day seminar, on 5 October, will be the first ever conference on the subject of e-Security in Malta. A full and impressive programme has already been drawn up and will feature keynote presentations from leading international organisations such as Cisco Systems, Baltimore Technologies, and Sophos, as well as local industry leaders such as e-Shore, MITTS and Go Mobile. The speakers, all senior executives with their respective firms, will cover subjects including:

  • The virus threat;

  • Connecting networks to the internet - Firewalls and VPNs;

  • Securing e-Commerce

  • The security impact of e-Government;

  • Implementation of a Public Key Infrastructure;

  • m-Commerce Security issues;

  • The e-mail threat - Mail Content Management.

    The Minister for Justice and Local Government, Dr Austin Gatt, will be inaugurating the conference.

    e-Security 2000 Conference is specifically aimed at business leaders who need not necessarily be knowledgeable about the subject but who appreciate the ever-increasing relevance of the subject for their organisations.

    "We believe that IT security has become too important a corporate issue to simply delegate to IT personnel," said John de Giorgio, managing director of Shireburn.

    "Our research has indicated that while businesses are becoming increasingly aware of their growing dependence on Internet-based technologies and communications infrastructure, they are insufficiently aware of the vulnerabilities and risks they are exposed to. The e-Security Conference is therefore planned to introduce participants to a host of new security issues they can expect to face as they embrace the Internet and e-commerce as part of their business strategy."

    The e-Security Conference 2000 offers a valuable opportunity for business decision-makers and IT professionals to become better informed about this important aspect of these new technologies and Shireburn anticipates a high demand for places at this inaugural event. The conference is of relevance to all sectors of business and government.
