Bay Street announce theatre calendar of events

The Bay Street Theatre is expected to be one of the busiest of its kind in Malta. This was announced by Albert Marshall, cultural coordinator of Bay Street and Dr Tony Buttigieg, manager of Bay Street Theatre. Speaking about the schedule of activities planned for the Bay Street Theatre, Mr Marshall stated " there is a strong calendar of events throughout Bay Street for all times of the year. The theatre in particular features one of the strongest and most diversified repertoires on the island featuring classical and jazz music, drama, magic and audio-visual productions".

Speaking in finer detail of the scheduled of events within the theatre, Dr Buttigieg, stated that "daytime activities will consist of animation presentations for schools, audio-visual presentations featuring the Great Siege, Visions of Malta, The War Time Experience and a new production entitled Dear Nana. A series of animation productions for tourists are also being planned".

Dr Buttigieg added that, "during the evenings the setting in the theatre will be completely different. Monday nights will be exclusively classical music mainly consisting of chamber orchestra, duos and quartets, solos and vocal recitals. Tuesdays will be reserved for Jazz music with a rotation of groups playing Latin, fusion, blues and classical. Wednesdays will see Colin Zammit Lupi and his band playing every other week while once a month will be the turn of elements from the popular choir Voices. Every Thursday, Malta's renowned illusionist, Vanni Pule will be giving an exclusive magical spectacle. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays will be reserved for special theatrical performances, a one man comedy show by TV presenter Ray Calleja and musical performance by percussionist Renzo Spiteri".

The theatre management is also currently holding talks with a number of musical and theatrical groups from Milan, Germany and New Zealand to perform on special occasions at the Bay Street Theatre. A programme of events is also being scheduled, including a specially commission pantomime, for the Christmas period.

Speaking about the comprehensive theatre programme, Mr Marshall stated that "our aim is to have a diversified and varied programme to suit everyone's taste from school children to youngsters and adults. We have spared no efforts to make Bay Street a mecca of activities and to keep it alive at all hours of the day. Although we have created an extensive calendar of events with established performers, we want to remain open to up and coming local talent by giving them space and time to exhibit their talents".
