Top speakers for e-Security conference

by David Kelleher

Two of the world's leading IT technology companies, Cisco and Baltimore Technologies are sending top rank speakers to the e-Security Conference 2000, which is being held at the Oracle Conference Centre, New Dolmen Hotel, on 5 October.

Other speakers present, from KPMG, Sophos, Terranet and Crimsonwing Ltd, will offer delegates a thought provoking insight into the key issues of secure IT systems for Business and their implications for management.

The Conference, organised by Shireburn Co Ltd, will be Malta's first ever e-Security event.

According to John de Giorgio, the company's managing director, "businesses are becoming increasingly aware of their growing dependence on Internet-based technologies and communications infrastructure. "However our research clearly shows they are insufficiently aware of the vulnerabilities and risks they are exposed to.

"The e-Security Conference is therefore planned to introduce participants to a host of new security issues they can expect to face as they embrace the Internet and e-commerce as part of their business strategy.

"This affects everyone in business, not just the IT department, because ultimately, what is at stake is the continuing ability of business to function smoothly in the changing world of e-commerce."

The top speakers include Eilon Ashkenazi, who has extensive experience in the field of networking, having worked with a number of leading companies in Israel.

He is currently a System Engineer at Cisco Systems and is thus involved in the development of new leading-edge networking and security technologies and their adoption in a number of leading Israeli blue-chip companies.

Michael Elysee will be addressing issues of information system governance at executive management level. A partner in the Information Risk Management Section in the financial section of KPMG, he works in

London, advising client senior management on the identification and management of risks that arise through the use of technology, especially, e-commerce.

The Baltimore Technologies speaker is Steve Bradshaw, whose presentation will focus on the importance of secure authentication of users across the Internet as a prerequisite for initiatives in e-Commerce and e-Government. Public Key Infrastructures are seen as a major component of this framework.

This presentation will focus on the implementation of a PKI Infrastructure and particularly what other countries are doing in this area.

Other speakers include Ruben Azzopardi from Terranet; Francois Grech, e-Commerce Architect for Crimsonwing Ltd; and Alan Draper from Sophos.

John de Giorgio will deliver the opening keynote presentation.
