BOV procure new e-payment software
by Franco Aloisio
Bank of Valletta has recently acquired a new e-payment processing
software from ACI Worldwide, a leading international provider
of enterprise e-payment solutions.
ACI licensed its e-payment processing software BASE24
and GENcard to BOV, in order to provide a single-point
solution for the banks assurance and acquiring services.
This will allow BOV to authorise, switch and route all Automated
Telling Machines (ATM) and Point of Sales (POS) transactions
through its network of 60 ATMs and 3,200 POS devices spread
around Malta and Gozo.
BOV will migrate from its current system to an integrated BASE24
and GENcard processing platform. This solution will offer the
bank proven fault-tolerant processing that can handle growing
transaction volumes. Bank of Valletta currently processes 400,000
ATM and 200,000 POS transactions monthly and expects growth
in both areas.
ACIs integrated solution gives us the ability to
develop and expand our financial services, said Raphael
E. Vassallo, general manager of Bank of Valletta.
We need a solid platform that can handle our current processing
needs while giving us the ability to add new services. BASE24
and GENcard meet our requirements with a design that is open
to current and emerging technologies, he said.
The integrated design of BASE24 allows multiple applications
such as card issuance and acquiring, and ATM and POS
processing to share the same customer and account information,
the same communication links to hosts and interchange networks
and the same
command and control system for operations and management.
The system also provides flexibility, giving BOV the ability
to integrate and support additional transactions, such as those
generated by smart cards, mobile phones, Internet banking or
Internet-based retailers.
With BASE24 and GENcard, Bank of Valletta gains the capabilities
it needs to power current and future e-payment processing,
said Richard Launder, managing director of
ACI Worldwides Europe/Middle East/Africa operation.
Bank of Valletta can use the ACI solution to address a
wide range of processing needs for its e-payment operation,
including multi-currency, smart cards and e-commerce, all on
a platform that is the world leader in offering reliable and
scaleable transaction infrastructure, he said.
