Mriehel Dealership project

The minister for transport and communications, Censu Galea, recently visited Gasan Group of Companies’ new premises in Mriehel.
Joe Gasan outlined the salient points of the project and the reasons for Gasan Group undertaking such a huge investment. Lm4m have been invested in the new premises at Mriehel, the capital having been raised from the Gasan Bond Issue that took place last year.
The decision to move the Automotive Division from its present location in Gzira, where Gasan Automotive has operated since the 1930s, was taken in the light of an ever-changing and dynamic market, a market that is becoming more and more sophisticated, and one where customers expectations are becoming higher.
The site occupies an area of 6,500 square metres with 5,200 square metres of actual building space. There is also a public service road running along the front and eastern side of the building and the total space of the six floors together adds up to 24,200 square metres.
The automotive division also received substantial assistance from Ford Motor Company in terms of operational planning, design and layout, in order to ensure that we have a state-of-the-art dealership.
Commenting on the sales of new cars, Mr Galea pointed out that although from January to September of this year, over 12,000 new cars were registered (an average of 1,300 per month), the increase of cars on the road was eventually half that amount due to a number of vehicles being laid up. The Minister also stressed the importance that all those who provide a service – particularly in the sale of cars – give more attention to the aftersales function, particularly the availability of spare parts.
