Festa Novello 2000:
a diner’s delight

Food is a serious business. As taste buds become more adventurous, chefs rise to pop star status and people search for real gourmet cuisine; food is the new sex and restaurants are the new pleasure domes.
It follows then that hot on the success of last year’s culinary celebration, the announcement of Festa Novello 2000 will have ‘many-mouths-a-watering’ in anticipation of this year’s menu. This is especially true if last year’s numbers are anything to go by when Malta’s favourite chef, Michael Cauchi, welcomed over 1,400 people to his restaurant Il Re del Pesce to eat, drink and savour the delights of the Festa Novello ‘99.
Festa Novello celebrates Grappolini’s first olive harvest of the year. This harvest produces Felicita, a truly elitist oil whose unique personality is appreciated in the dishes offered during the ‘Festa’ period at Il Re del Pesce. The ritual hand picking and pressing of the Tuscan olives that produces Felicita is even more significant this year being the very first harvest of the millenium.
Hosted by gourmet lovers Living Interiors, the hugely talented Michael Cauchi & his team, and sponsors Paolo Bonnici with Beaujolais Noveau 2000 by Bouchard Père e Fils, Festa Novello 2000 gives food lovers the opportunity to fulfil their every fantasy. The menu, (so far a secret), promises a fusion of Maltese and Tuscan food that will reawaken and tantalise even the most jaded of palettes.
The Festa Novello is held in a deliberately unfancy environment where the ambience is relaxed and friendly and the dress informal. But the food, well this is serious gourmet, lip smacking stuff that could compete with even the best Tuscan Mama.
Along with the ‘Beaujolais Noveau’ week, the Festa Novello looks set to become a yearly date in every food lover’s diary. The first banquet will be created for the media on Thursday 23 November at Il Re del Pesce. Following this the Festa Novello menu will be available from 24 November till Sunday 3 December.

For bookings call Il Re Del Pesce on 636353 or email Michael at redelpesce@vol.net.mt.
