IMAX Vodafone Theatre launch

The Eden Leisure Group put Malta on the map with the opening of the first IMAX theatre in the Mediterranean on 6 December.
The evening of the launch was packed with action adventure and even a snow storm as the Malta Rock Climbers association scaled the façade of the buildings, while Aracelli Segarra a world renowned rock and mountain climber and a protagonist in the film, was invited over especially for the launch.
The IMAX Vodafone Theatre is the first of the innovative projects to be launched by the entertainment pioneers, whose name has become synonymous with setting the standard for the leisure industry in Malta, building an illustrious portfolio within the hospitality and entertainment sectors in the last 35 years.
The entertainment marketplace worldwide has become more competitive than ever and the consumer of the new millennium is the smartest and most demanding yet. These factors impact the IMAX brand and IMAX theatres worldwide. It is felt that the IMAX brand is very well suited for the new millennium, presenting excitement and entertainment in a new dimension.
IMAX motion picture systems use state-of-the-art technology using the largest film frame in motion picture history – a 15-perforation, 70mm format which is 10 times the size of conventional 35mm movie and three times bigger than the standard 70mm frame.
This together with a six-channel, multi-speaker, 12,000-watt wrap-around IMAX Digital sound system creates images and sounds that are so intense one can almost feel them.
Although Lm2m have been invested, the IMAX Vodafone Theatre represents only a fraction of the overall investment in the Group’s redevelopment project, it is significant in many aspects.
The IMAX Corp., a publicly traded company based in Canada is committed to investing in technology, the production and promotion of large format movies as well as offering unsurpassed customer service to IMAX operators.
As an operator, the Eden leisure Group will be setting the standards which will be incorporated into the Group’s other activities and used as a benchmark on corporate standards for its other entertainment and leisure activities.
