Import duties act

The Comptroller of Customs notifies that notice of a Bill to amend the Import Duties Act has been given by the Minister of Finance to the clerk of the House of Representatives on 27 December 2000 and that the provisions of the Bill shall come into force as from 1 January 2001, in terms of the relative proclamation.
The Bill, which includes the new Customs Tariff, is expected to be published in the Government Gazette within the next few days. In the meantime, anyone wishing to obtain information on the new rates of duty applicable to imports of non-EU origin may contact the department on one of the following telephone numbers: 244504, 247464, 235135, 235357 or call personally at the Entry Processing Unit, Custom House, Valletta, during office hours.
Copies of the draft Duties Tariff have also been made available to the offices of the Federation of Industries, Chamber of Commerce and the General Retailers and Traders Union for the convenience of their respective members.
