Air Malta places 27th in airline survey

by David Kelleher

Malta’s national airline has placed 27th among 61 airlines in a survey carried out by the UK magazine Holiday Which?
Air Malta placed higher than a number of well-known airlines such as British Midland, United Airlines, Continental Airlines and Lufthansa. British Airway, long considered one of the world’s best airlines, only placed 26th.
The majority of respondents said that they would either “yes, definitely” or “yes, probably” recommend Air Malta to a friend.
On an individual category basis, Air Malta earned an average rating for cabin air quality, cabin crew, catering, and check-in staff. However, the airline did not do well on cleanliness of the interior, leg room, seat comfort or toilet facilities. Respondents also said the national airline was not good value for money. On the other hand the airline received a very good rating for seat allocation.
Holiday Which? asked 60,000 of its members in August of last year to give an assessment of the airlines they used. Of the 31,410 replies, 20,326 related to a flight taken for personal or holiday reasons. Responses relating to business flights and anyone working for the travel industry were excluded.
New Zealand received top rating in most categories, followed by Singapore Airlines, Palmair, Emirates and SAS. Air Europa, Sabre and Egyptair came last as the worse
airlines.
