Fimbank appoints new directors
First International Merchant Bank Ltd (Fimbank) has appointed
Dr John C. Grech, former chairman of Bank of Valletta plc, and
Emmanuel Ellul, former governor of the Central Bank of Malta,
to its board of directors.
Dr Grech is a leading economist and consultant in business and
management. His present chairmanships include the Malta Tourism
Authority, EMCS Ltd, and Unipol Insurance Agency Ltd. He is
a member of the board of directors of Middle Sea Insurance plc,
and a visiting professor at the University of Malta. He is a
past chairman of Middle Sea Valletta Life Assurance Co Ltd,
and a former President
of the Mediterranean Bank
Network.
Mr Ellul is one of Maltas foremost economists. He joined
the Central Bank of Malta in 1968, and served as deputy governor
and as governor. On his retirement from that role in 1999, he
was appointed adviser to the government of Malta, and given
responsibility for the Privatisation Unit in the Ministry of
Finance. Mr Ellul sits on the board of Malta Government Privatisation
plc, and also that of Middle Sea Valletta Life Assurance Co
Ltd. Claude L. Roy, President of First International Merchant
Bank (Fimbank) is hosting guests and other interested parties
to a presentation on international trade finance and the banks
activities in this field. It is of interest to exporters, nominee
companies, and financial services providers. The presentation,
which will be followed by drinks, will be held this evening
at 6pm, at the Chamber of Commerce in Valletta. Those who wish

Fimbank is Maltas only merchant bank, and was set up in
1994 by a group of international investors. Its majority shareholding
is Kuwaiti, and it has a paid up capital of US$20m.
