Three companies join forces to
develop quality local TV content

by Ivan Brincat

Melita Cable plc have joined forces with Studio 7 Co. Ltd and Max Media Entertainment Ltd to set up MediaPact, a fully-fledged production company.
The aim behind the newly set-up company is that of providing
services directly required in the development, production and distribution of feature films, commercials and television programmes including the provision of studio facilities, film sets, filming equipment, management, personnel, marketing and other executive services.
Sources close to Melita Cable plc told The Malta Business Weekly
yesterday the company had become involved because it was in the interest of the company to have a qual-ity entertainment channel with local content.
This philosophy is also backed by the results of various surveys commissioned by the Broadcasting Authority and carried out by Prof. Mario Vassallo.
In these surveys, it is very clear that the Maltese look for good local entertainment and educational programmes when they are watching television.
The sources said the company was aware of the importance of having good local content. “That gives us an edge over satellite television since the latter does not have any local content.”
MediaPact Ltd will be run by Max Media Entertainment Ltd and Studio 7 Ltd and the company has appointed Victor Formosa as the general manager.
Max Media Entertainment Ltd has a cable channel providing local entertainment content to Melita Cable. It uses the studios of Studio 7 for most of the company’s
productions.
The two companies have between them 60 per cent of the shares while Melita Cable will be a dormant partner with 40 per cent, the sources said.
In its memorandum and Articles of Association, the company lists one of the objectives as that of applying for and holding a television licence and to broadcast any productions/programmes with such a television licence.
The directors of the company are Anton Felice who is the chairman, Simon Mizzi, Lino Mintoff, Joseph Debono, Godfrey Sammut, Claudette Pace and Ray Calleja.
