Iceland and the European Economic Area

Jon Steindor Valdimarrson, deputy managing director of the Federation of Icelandic Industries will address members of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and the Malta Federation of Industry at an information meeting today at 4.30pm at the Metco Hall in San Gwann with the title “Iceland and the European Economic Area – Advantages and Disadvantages”.
Mr Valdimarrson will be overviewing
Iceland’s relationship with the European Union via the European Economic Area (EEA) and will be presenting both the advantages and disadvantages of Iceland’s specific relationship with
the EU, modelled on free trade area (FTA)
principles.
This activity will be an ideal opportunity to listen to a business perspective of the practical opportunities and threats posed by an enhanced FTA, especially when compared to the EU membership option.
This initiative follows on the members information meeting held earlier in the year for which Rene Winkin from the Luxembourg Federation of Industry was the guest speaker. Mr Winkin’s presentation was entitled “Operating in the EU – the Case of Luxembourg”. Mr Valdimarrson was invited by the Malta Business Bureau.
