GWU replies to
l-orizzont report
The Malta Chamber of Commerce yesterday replied to a report
carried in the General Workers Union newspaper l-orizzont
on the meet-
ing between constituted bodies and the Prime Minister of the
Slovak
Republic.
The meeting was organised by the Chamber to which representatives
of all Constituted Bodies within the MCED, including the GWU,
were invited to meet Prime Minister Dzurinda. Business executives
interested in trading with this country were also invited to
attend this particular
meeting.
The facts, the Chamber said, are that the Chamber President
wrote to the President of the GWU on 12 June to invite him and
another nine representatives from his Council to this meeting.
This letter was sent by hand to the Workers Memorial Building
and the Chamber is in possession of a receipt.
Moreover, on the day of the meeting in the morning
a Chamber employee contacted the Union to remind them
of the event as well as to obtain the names of the GWU representatives
who would be attend-
ing this meeting. Contacts with presidents of other trade unions
and employer bodies were made in exactly the same manner,
the Chamber said. This was not the first meeting with foreign
dignitaries organised at The Exchange and as a general
rule, the Chamber consistently follows the same procedures in
its preparations for similar events, the Chamber added.
Therefore, the Chamber called on the GWU to correct the mistake
in the same way as it made its allegation.
