Sea Malta invests in new equipment for entire fleet

As part of its restructuring drive Sea Malta has overhauled its entire container fleet according to a renewal programme where all old containers have been replaced with brand new equipment. The programme also consisted of the purchasing of a number of special types of equipment in order to cater for emerging new needs of its customers.
The purchase of these new containers consequently led to the commission of a number of 20 foot platforms. The manufacturing of these platforms was undertaken by the renowned Latvian Company Roko Intermodal Services under the direct supervision of Patrick Attard, Sea Malta’s Equipment and Logistics Manager, who is a qualified IICL surveyor.
Rated at 33 gross tonnes, each platform is of a very sturdy build quality capable of carrying heavy loads of various metal cargoes, gypsum boards and other heavy gear. These platforms, which have been fully certified by Lloyd’s surveyors, have been delivered to the Genoa port from where they will immediately start moving cargoes to Malta via Sea Malta’s weekly service from this port.
Speaking about this investment, Sea Malta chairman, Marlene Mizzi said: “This investment not only contributes to an increase in the versatility of Sea Malta’s fleet but also makes it one of the most modern serving the island. Moreover, conscious of the ever increasing competition in the market in which we operate, this initiative was another effort to remain at the helm of the local maritime industry."
