Link with Europay and Mastercard fully restored

HSBC Bank Malta yesterday said that Europay technicians, currently in Malta to solve the recent problem that local banks have been experiencing on certain Eurocard and Mastercard cards have now put in place a temporary solution through which service has now been fully restored. Efforts are continuing to ensure that a permanent solution is put in place in the next few days.
Patrick Lanzon, HSBC’s Card Products Manager, said: “HSBC personnel have been actively assisting Europay technicians around the clock to help resolve this problem. HSBC is appreciative of the efforts being made by all local and overseas personnel involved to solve the problem for the benefit of all Europay members in Malta.”
While difficulties with the use of Eurocard and Mastercard card persis-ted, HSBC offered continuous assistance to all affected clients. However, due to the fact that some cards are designed to operate only on-line through the Europay network it was, unfortunately, not always technically possible to obtain authorisation. “This position applies to all banks which are members of Europay,” concluded Mr Lanzon.
