by Michael Carabott
A local company producing remote control units for other
global organisations this week announced its plans to expand
its operations with plans to invest Lm700,000 over three years.
Hetronic Malta opened its fac-tory back in 1994 with just 14
employees. Seven years later, in 2001, the employees number
82.
Hetronic Malta said that over the next three years they would
be employing an additional 38 people to bring the complement
up to 120 employees by 2004.
The company is a member of Hetronic Group of Companies, founded
in Germany back in 1982. The whole group comprises 11 companies
worldwide.
The Malta operation manufactures remote controls as well as
some of the control units individual components.
Hetronic Maltas main clients include the leading manufacturers
of tower cranes and concrete pumps Potain and Cifa respectively.
Hetronic Maltas general manager Simon Grima said the company
was also close to securing a contract with another leading US
company.
In addition, Hetronic Malta deals with the marketing,
sales and
service centre for the Mediterranean, Middle East and North
Africa, he said.
Economic Services Minister Josef Bonnici visited the plant and
said Hetronic had the ideal profile of companies the Malta Development
Corporation was trying to attract to this country.
Hetronics success shows that Malta does offer the
right business environment and it is another testimonial for
our investment promotion initiatives, said Professor Bonnici.
Prof. Bonnici also congratulated Hetronic for the progress it
had made since setting up in Malta. I remember three years
ago we were in Japan with a delegation from
Hetronic and the MDC, Hetronic managed to secure a contract
with Komatsu, a leading Japanese construction company,
he said.
Prof. Bonnici said he had no doubt the company would continue
to expand and prosper and said Hetronic was a good advert for
Malta internationally.
