‘Insurance Quarterly’ out today

The latest issue of the Insurance Quarterly, the journal of the Malta Insurance Association and the Association of Insurance Brokers, is out today.
Distributed free with The Malta Business Weekly, the September issue takes a look at developments in the industry at home and abroad, in particular the recent liquidation of one of the largest insurance firms in the United Kingdom, Independent Insurance.
Anton Felice takes a look at what led to the demise of the UK
company while Leslie Borg
focuses on the impact this has had on Maltese policyholders and the local agent, Micallef Insurance Agency. In another feature, Anton Felice delves into whether companies have a right to check the
content of emails that their employees are sending and how to combat the misuse of company equipment by employees during working hours. David Kelleher reports on a US$30m lawsuit in the US after a lawyer killed a young girl while she was talking on her mobile phone while driving. He argues that although using a mobile phone while driving is not allowed at law, this same law is flaunted by everyone. Even though no serious accidents have been reported, this does not make mobile use while driving any more legal.
The magazine carries local and foreign news, articles on money-laundering and the growing
need for IT governance in large companies and an insurance guide for small and medium-sized
businesses.
