Worldwide distribution for software solution by Maltese company

by Ivan Brincat

A software solution developed for Lotus Notes by a Maltese company, Shireburn Software Ltd, will be distributed worldwide as from next month.
The launch of Integra for Notes, an innovative tool which supplements the reporting and integration capabilities of Lotus Notes with Microsoft Word and Excel was announced yesterday by the company’s managing director John de Giorgio. Lotus Notes is the world’s leading software for email and
collaboration.
Shireburn yesterday announced a groundbreaking agreement with Ives Development Inc. of Massachusetts, USA, the world-leading provider of tools for Lotus Notes developers, with offices in the United States, Europe and Japan.
Through this agreement, Ives Development Inc. have been entrus-ted with worldwide promotion and distribution of Integra for Notes while Shireburn will concentrate on product development and support.
Shireburn is a wholly-owned Maltese company established in 1983. The workforce is made up of a dedicated multi-disciplinary team of professionals at present comprising over 20 people.
It is a leading provider of high quality packaged and customised software solutions for business. It is the sole distributor for Lotus software in Malta and was appointed an Advanced Lotus Business Partner as a result of which the company developed substantial expertise in the implementation of solutions based on Lotus Domino and Lotus Notes technology.
Following IBM’s acquisition of Lotus in 1995, Shireburn have this year been appointed as Advanced Business Partner in IBM’s PartnerWorld for Software programme.
Mr de Giorgio said the company had clients in various countries even though their most important market was undoubtedly the United Kingdom.
He said the agreement reverses the usual trend of Maltese companies reselling foreign software products. “Furthermore, following our success in exporting our applications and
services to the European market, resulting in our opening a London support office in 1999, this agreement with Ives Development signals a new milestone in Shireburn’s history raising the company’s profile within the prestigious Lotus/IBM software community.”
The agreement between Ives Development and Shireburn was signed last Tuesday.
Initially, the Maltese company had used the internet to demonstrate Integra for Notes and it was only this week that a team from the American company travelled to London for presentations there.
The company will be selling Shireburn’s software through its electro-
nic commerce site teamstudio.com.
It has already shown interest in developing the software for the Japanese market, something which Shireburn will develop in the near future.
Ives Development boasts a number of well known global leaders among its client base including AT & T, GlaxoSmithKline, 3M, Lockhead Martin, IBM, Cap Gemini, McDonald’s, Ernst & Young and the Canadian and US governments.
Andrea Curewitz, director of Strategic Alliances at Ives Development said that Integra for Notes will be a key strategic addition to their ParnerSource portfolio of high quality developer tools which are distributed worldwide. “We are confident of a successful partnership and hopeful for the development of other new products in the future.”
Mr de Giorgio said the development of the product required a lot of investment both financial and in human resources.
The managing director said that this was an interesting opportunity for the company and means the company is entering into markets which before seemed unreachable.
He said the launch of this project showed that Maltese companies had the ability to compete globally.
