Transport Authority launches new information services
The authority has taken a number of practical initiatives to
ensure that Maltese commuters, as well as tourists, are better
informed about the services provided by the local bus system.
These initiatives will ensure that the public is better informed
and has the means of informing the authority when the system
does not deliver as it should.
In all the bus termini in Malta and in Victoria, Mgarr, Marsalforn
and Xlendi in Gozo, notice boards with the times of departure
for all buses from those particular localities have been installed.
These time-tables will be changed when the winter schedule comes
into force.
Along the bus routes new notice boards are being installed with
the time-tables that indicate the times when buses are due at
these stops. These time-tables have already been put up at Portes-de-Bombes
and at Blata l-Bajda and will be installed in other localities
shortly. It is hoped that this information, together with a
more efficient use of the authoritys enforcement system,
will help commuters to be better served.
The authority has also launched its own website at www.maltatransport.com
in which information on transport in Malta is posted. This information
will continue to be updated according to the season and to other
services available on the island. Recent press releases will
also be available on this site. Besides, the site will provide
information on the services provided by other various sectors
such as minibuses, coaches, ferries, taxis and karozzini (horse
drawn cab), all of which fall under the responsibility of the
Public Transport Authority (PTA).
To encourage Maltese and tourists use public transport more
frequently, the process for the installation of bus ticketing
machines on each bus is in a very advanced stage. Besides making
the issue of tickets faster, these machines will provide the
authority with up-to-date information on commuter traffic so
that the public transport services in both Malta and Gozo will
be planned according to commuter requirements.
The authority also has a free-phone service. The number is 0800772393.
