Local company appointed country
partner for Panda Software

by Ivan Brincat

MIS Ltd has been appointed country partner for Panda Software. The appointment will now ensure better quality and service to customers.
The company’s director Joseph Aquilina told The Malta Business Weekly that the company had been a reseller of Panda Software products since May before being appointed country partner last month, five months later.
“Although we are still an independent company, we will now have to follow their level of qual-ity and service,” Mr Aquilina said.
Panda Software has a range of software products for the corporate users but software packages for the home user are also available. Panda Software provides users with Antivirus and Computer Security Solutions. Present throughout the world, it is a European multinational leader in antivirus and security solutions and has its headquarters in Madrid, Spain.
Mr Aquilina said that ADS System Ltd, which used to distribute the Panda products, is now geared towards IT support and network solutions.
Panda offers three main products – Panda Global Virus Insurance, Panda Invent and Panda Security.
The Panda Global Virus insurance is the most comprehensive antivirus solution for corporate environments. It has automatic centralised management to minimise administration costs, constant virus signature file updates, protection for a wide range of workstation and server platforms and minimum resource usage.
Panda Antivirus works for firewalls, proxy servers, exchange servers, Notes, Domino server, Windows NT/2000 Server and Novell Netware server.
Mr Aquilina said that the antivirus is a very powerful tool because it can control all the servers with one
single administrator.
Panda Security is a solution that ensures the privacy and confidentiality of information stored on the Windows computing infrastructures against the intrusion of unauthorised users. Its access control, audit and encryption features allow the user to quickly and easily
manage who can use the system, when and for what purpose.
It is ideal for laptops as they need a security programme which enables them to be used by several different users while at the same time guaranteeing the privacy of each. It also ensures that the data stored within is totally impregnable in the event of loss or theft of the computer.
Panda Security offers boot protection, prevents unauthorised users from accessing the system, unique user identification time schedule control among others.
Panda Invent on the other hand is a solution that can identify and collect the relevant information, on both hardware and software, from all the workstations on the IT network with ease and convenience thus allowing the user to monitor the whole inventory.
Mr Aquilina said there are five reasons why a company would need Panda Invent. These are cost-saving, licence control and protection against illegal software, increased efficiency of internal technical support, reduction in reply times to requests for information and more reliable control of the quality of the machines. It can read what type of hard-disk is on which computer and can also detect if a computer is missing from the network.
Among Panda Software’s clients one finds government institutions, Boeing, Panasonic, Mercedes-Benz, Adidas, Nokia, PepsiCo, Fujitsu and numerous EU governments.
It was founded in 1990 by CEO Mikel Urizarbarrena as an Information Technology Security business. The company has grown from a staff of three to a team of hundreds of professionals worldwide. The range of products has changed considerably, starting off with an MS-DOS antivirus that detected three viruses and now ITSec products for all kinds of companies.
