Amidst a flurry of new luxury fashion appointments, Rochas has announced that the Italian designer Alessandro Vigilante is to take the helm at the womenswear label as Creative Director of ready-to-wear.
Following the departure of the founder, he became the luxury brand’s sixth creative director. Marcel Rochas started Rochas in 1925, and the company was eventually bought by Interparfum, a French licenced perfumes provider, in 2015.
Vigilante’s debut collection for the company will be Fall/Winter 2024, which will be shown during Paris Fashion Week next February, while Rochas will return to the runway in September 2024.
On his appointment, the designer said, “Rochas represents a dedication to French sophistication and a celebration of Womanhood that I find incredibly inspiring.”
Charles de Vilmorin, Rochas’ previous Creative Director, stepped down in April 2023, only two years after his appointment. With Vigilante at the helm, Rochas appears to be seeking to significantly change the brand’s direction while staying true to its traditions. The designer is expected to bring “modernity to the charismatic, sophisticated, and timeless beauty that has long been part of the brand DNA,” according to the brand.
