Stranded at the Airport? It’s Time to Switch to Travel Agents

With the proliferation of cheap travel reservations available online, you would be forgiven for thinking that the Internet had sparked the inevitable demise of travel agents.

Nothing, however, could be further from the truth.
Over the last few years, travel agents have in fact seen a surge in business. These are not the high street travel agents aiming to sell you cut-price deals to destinations that are swamped with tourists, but the higher end travel agents that really add value through their services, catering especially for those making regular business trips.

If you’re travelling at the higher end of the market, next time you’re stranded at the airport, contracting a travel agent could be a very smart move. While there may be an initial cost to using their services, the best travel agents more than recoup that cost through the savings they make on your behalf. Travel agents offer customers a wide range of benefits.

However knowledgeable you think you may be about your holiday or business trip destination, a high quality travel agent unquestionably knows more. Whether it’s knowing the most convenient hotel to stay at relative to where you will be taking your meetings or the quickest form of transport to get around, good travel agents have a deep knowledge of a vast array of locations.

Most importantly, travel agents’ knowledge isn’t just based on a quick Internet search, it’s based on years of experience, either personal or via feedback given by the thousands of customers that they have previously served. This knowledge should help give you piece of mind and make your next trip run that little bit smoother.

When you book travel or hotels online or over the phone, you are given access only to the same deals and availability as everybody else. Owing to the relationships that high quality travel agents have forged with hotel managers, car hire companies or airlines, often over a number of decades, they have access to more cost effective deals and know that full doesn’t always mean full. If there’s a hotel that you would love to stay at, for example, it may be fully booked according to the hotel’s manager, but a quick call to the hotel’s GM from your travel agent, who has built a rapport with him or her over a number of years, could reveal that there are a few spare rooms saved for special guests. And when buying business travel through a travel agent, that special guest becomes you.

Personal service

When using a trusted high quality travel agent, you can rest safe in the knowledge that there is always someone who can help you out of any travel conundrum at the end of the phone. While you may use a travel agent’s online portal, stocked with deals that are available only to registered clients, there is likely to be an occasion when you’re stranded at the airport and in need of some emergency, expert assistance. Having a high quality travel agent at the end of the phone can help to remove stress from even the most difficult of travelling scenarios.
