Why Great Wall Are the Next Big Thing in UK Motoring

Named after the Great Wall of China, Great Wall Motors are the country’s largest SUV producer, amongst other massive accomplishments. After launching the Steed pick-up last year, they have become the first Chinese manufacturer to start volume vehicle sales in the UK.

After manufacturing for 35 years and selling vehicles across the globe, Great Wall Motors have cultivated a strong reputation in a variety of markets. The company estimates that they will be able to produce 1.5 million vehicles each year by 2015.

Strict adherence to quality service

A part of what makes Great Wall Motors such a force to reckon with is the fact that they strictly abide by their ‘Great Wall Promise’. The promise includes a test drive at the customer’s convenience, provided they live within 20 miles of a Great Wall dealership.

The ‘Promise’ also includes a monthly service payment plan, in order to allow the customer to budget his or her motoring expenses. The warranties offered with the vehicles are quite comprehensive and thorough, too.

As long as you live or work within 20 miles of a dealership, you can expect your car to be picked up, serviced and returned to you.

Looking into the future

Great Wall has begun looking into the manufacturing of electric vehicles. In 2011, they announced that they had made investments into the research and development of energy-efficient vehicles for the future.

The fact that China subsidises its oil supply has influenced Great Wall’s decision to begin exploring electric car production. There is a big gap in the market, as Western car manufacturers are yet to make much progress in electric vehicle technology.

Tax benefits

If you’re buying a pickup truck from Great Wall, it’s worth noting that they still enjoy ‘Benefit in Kind’ (BIK) tax advantages, which puts them ahead of other light commercial vehicles that are sold at a similar price.

This is very, very useful for business owners, or those who want to purchase vehicles for business use. For instance, employees who use Steed pick-up trucks for business purposes will have no BIK tax liability at all, in contrast to someone purchasing one for private use, where a 20% tax payer will have to pay £600 a year.

Find out more at one of the shows

If Great Wall Motors has piqued your curiosity, you’ll be able to catch them up close and personal at one of the many country fairs and trade shows they have organised for the year ahead.

Great Wall attended over 30 country fairs and trade shows in 2012 and found an overwhelmingly positive reception for the Steed from over a million attendees. Following this magnificent success, Great Wall is attending a host of shows around the country throughout 2013.

They’ll be attending the Balmoral Show and the Royal Highland Show, among many others, so make sure you check to see if they’re coming to a fair near you!
